Papyrus plant

I have bought this plant from Southport flower show. It likes full sun but moist roots. Could I plant it with some plastic under it  then  it keeps the soil damp??

    you are taking it in for the winter I presume? They're not reliably hardy

    Yes I was advised to bring it in doors for winter.  I'm making a new bed so thought a bag underneath it would solve a problem??

    so long as it doesn't dry out, it'll be fine .
    I have 2 in pots in my conservatory, and I'm rather ashamed to admit , I've let them dry out, but they always bounce back.

    I presume you will be leaving it the pot if it is to come in for the winter. It isn't a good idea to put plastic underneath as that could affect the drainage and will damage the plant. It is best to just keep an eye on it and make sure it is well watered. Papyrus can be grown as a pond plant. https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/details?plantid=4429

    I can be grown as a pond plant, as you say, so plastic underneath won't do it any harm.

    I've seen papyrus in great clumps floating down the Nile. You'll never cause them damage by overwatering them.

    MY nan always kept one in her bathroom, they like it hot and steamy, and standing in a tray of water.
