October jobs-cutting back asparagus after it turns yellow

I just started my asparagus patch from seed this year. Do I follow the instructions on GW website to cut it back, or leave it this year?

Got it on google. Cut back and compost around it when foliage is yellow.

Yes, this years foliage will die back naturally when the temperatures drop and then you can cut them back.
