tomato irregularities

Can anyone help identify what ails these tomatoes, what I could do if anything to prevent next year, and if they're still ok to eat?

Hard to photograph but lots have a lot of pale spots like this

Thanks!

no idea what it is, but I'd eat them if they were mine. ( NOT telling anyone else to eat them )

  • Thanks @Hostafan1, they don't really match anything on the pages of tomato diseases

It could be temperature fluctuations that have caused slightly uneven ripening.
But there's nothing wrong with them and perfectly safe to eat.
If you keep them somewhere warm they may continue ripening

I don't think I'd be worried about eating them either, unless you're concerned that something poisonous has got to them?
Temps have certainly been awkward this year, so I'd agree that's the most likely reason, as toms do seem to react negatively with fluctuations more than most other plants.

  • perfect, that makes sense. Just wanted to check I wasnt' missing anything. Any that are getting red and soft go in the fridge, those that are not yet there are in the fruit bowl, and they're still ripening on the plant, though I think i'll end up bringing a pile of green ones in in a couple of weeks

Probably just not-quite-perfect skin. I'd eat them as well. Maybe slice one through the affected patch and have a look at the inside first if you're worried.

If possible try not to keep tomatoes in the fridge, it will cause loss of flavour, but understand sometimes there's no option.

Might be water droplets on the skin from condensation magnifying the suns strength bleaching the colour. I too would eat them.😁
Yes @Pete.8 needs must when every time you go out you pick over 2lb of Roma and 50 black cherry tomatoes. 😁
  • Ooh, good thought @purplerallim !
