On Sunday they was a huge commotion in the air - much zooming, flying and twittering as the dozens of House Martins that nest under our eaves and many other houses around, decided it was time to emigrate. So that means that autumn has truly arrived.
But today, one nest has one little bird cheeping and crying for attention. I thought they had all flown to warmer climes - but at least one adult is on feeding duty, coming back again and again, feeding the youngster and, I sincerely hope, getting him/her strong enough for the journey.
Sad that it's the end of summer. Happy to see nature at its best. And we'll see them come back again next April, so not that long to wait!

The swallows have been a-swoopin' and a-divin' here for a couple of weeks. Not seen any today, so it's possible they've headed off.
