  • Yes, it probably will be a different selection next year @treehugger80. In the field we had sown Bird's foot trefoil, Black Knapweed, ladies Bedstraw, ox-eye daisy, red Campion, Red Clover, Sainfoin, self heal, catchfly, white capion and yarrow - some of which flowered in the first year (this year) and others hopefully will show their colours next year. We did also have annuals coming through including cornflower, poppies, corn cockle, vetch and scentless mayweed. There are also various grasses in the mix including Tall Fescue and Timothy.
  • So now I suppose  its raking the dead top off after a couple of weeks @Guernsey Donkey2, is the "hay" usable or do you have a huge compost heap. I wonder if raking would disturb things enough for the poppies ect. to regrow.😁
  • We are in the process of finding someone to take the dead top layer away @purplerallim. Will keep you informed and yes the raking will help to bed in the seeds.  Just hope the weather stays dry for this layer to dry out.
  • make sure you don't leave it more than a couple of weeks, otherwise it becomes a weed (and flower) suppression mulch, particularly if its been wet
  • Agree @treehugger80 and that is one of my concerns at the moment - it would be a timing consuming job for my OH to tackle alone.
