Strawberries

Are second crop strawberries ok to eat.

    The second crop have taken weeks to ripen. They are very soft and mushy. I have cut one in half, and it does not smell like a strawberry should, and the flesh is an all creamy white colour. I have not tasted this, as I do not believe that these strawberries are edible.

    Can you offer a bit more info @Harold15?
    Variety, growing conditions etc. A photo would be helpful too if you can manage one  :)
    It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

    If you have had a lot of rain or cold spell can make them soft and mushy.

    The variety is Sweetheart. If my memory serves me correctly, I don't always have a second crop. As you can see on the photo, the strawberry was too mushy to cut in half. They grow in well drained soil, in a sheltered spot.
