small back garden design

Hi this is my very small back garden. I would appreciate any ideas. I would like to cover the walls on both sides either with a climber or a slim hedge but something that still looks neat in the winter. I would also like to screen off both sides of the shed for a little more privacy. The stone I’m going to replace and add more patio. I would welcome all ideas please. The right hand side of garden gets full sun most of the day, when it’s shining!

Hello, welcome to the forum  :)

If you want to hide the walls altogether,  you could go for an evergreen hedge . A cotoneaster such as simonsii or osmanthus delaveyii perhaps. Are you going to remove the existing plants ? You have a bit of colour going on there already, so you might find it easier to widen the beds if you have the room to do so.
This is just a quick posting off the top of my head, I'm sure there will be plenty of other suggestions!

Would it benefit from a paving seating area near the garden room? Is it sloping, would it benefit from a low sleeper wall to create level areas and a couple of wide steps for sitting? Mind-blowing MS Paint skills based on these thoughts here:

I'd lose the grass, and make the borders much deeper, sell the mower and use the money for more plants

In a space that size, I would lose the grass too and turn it into a courtyard garden, with a mix of paved/gravel areas, wider borders and a one or two large, statement pots, one in front of the narrow gap to the left of the pic. The garden room does dominate somewhat, shame it wasn’t hard up against the fence to one side, so you could have an off centre/curving path to it and maybe plant in front of it or have a small seating area outside it to reduce it’s visual impact a little. I would also be tempted to paint the white parts a darker colour so it recedes more. You could add trellises to your fence to increase the height a little and attach a tall panel to the fence on the right, at 90º leaving a gap behind big enough to get through to the side/rear of the garden room.

  • Thanks everyone for all the great information. I have a lot to think about. I’m beginning to think taking out the grass best option but I have a small dog so will have to think about something for her. Appreciate all the ideas and plans. Thanks

@genahearne Have you decided what to do with your grass?  I am in a similar situation with a small patch but a dog!

  • Its a shame these threads tail off,and we dont get to know the outcome, grass or no grass??

This happens frequently on forums. The OP may have forgotten that they came here to ask for help, and moved on to other occupations.
