Plant ID please

Hello forkers!
I picked up this plant at the B and q sale but typically, no-one in the store knew what is was. It only cost 2 squid so thought I'd take a punt.
Any ideas? Thanks.

Hello Ffoxglove. I looks to me very much like the white potato vine Solanum laxum 'Album'. Would it be possible for you to take a close up of the flowers? This could help with identification.

  • Hi @ladybird4
Thanks for the suggestion.. I've taken a close up of the flower. I have a purple solanum but the flowers grow in clusters on that whereas these seems to be singular.
Plus my purple solanum is HUGE. Be good to know if this will get as big!

It is not unlike this picture of a Solanum flower.

Is it sweetly scented by any chance?

Interesting looking plant. Looks a bit like some type of Capsicum. Could be a chilli or pepper type plant.
  • Mmm the plot thickens.... I can't detect much scent.
But then there aren't many flowers atm...

  • Do I have to grow it inside?

If it IS a solanum they need to be grown outside.

If they're Chilli peppers, I'm not familiar with these plants, but I doubt they can be grown outside in the winter time. I think they are treated like annuals unless you keep them warm over the winter time.

Borderline is right in that chillies cannot be grown outside in this country. I cannot, however, see any fruits forming on your plant. Have you noticed any at all Ffoxglove?
