What are these black marks on my young Acer please .  Kind regards, Tony

  • Hi Tony, it may be too much sun depending on where you've planted it. Mine is tucked up in the north facing corner. Or not enough moisture.
  • Or Acer Tar spot according to RHS website
  • What causes that please.
  • Don't think it's to hot it's sheltered under a high tree but not directly. ?
  • Is it being kept moist? They don't like drought. Looking at the photos on various gardening sites it doesn't look like tar spot.
  • So what is it ? HELP

Have you gto a wider view of it @tony williams2?
It's most likely weather related  - probably very dried out, if it's under a tree.
The tree will be nicking most of the available moisture from the ground.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • It's not all the leaves just the top couple.

I wouldn't worry unduly, but without any further info, it's difficult to offer any more advice.
If it's been very hot/sunny at the wrong time [ ie when new, soft growth appears] it could have frazzled them. Wind will also do that  :)
