Pruning our magnolia tree

we have a large established magnolia in front of our house. I am very fond of it, but it has been allowed to get out of hand and spread wide. I am worried it will split in half at some point so it needs a good cut back/ reshape. I have no idea when is the best time to do this, could anyone advise me please? When and how 😊 Thanks

Magnolias don't generally respond well to being pruned other than to remove dead wood.

The RHS offers this advice about when and how so have a read and then proceed with caution if you must but I would leave well alone.
