Thank you @LunarSea it makes perfect sense. The pics on the websites all show people working at maximum height using the rail. I had visions of me three steps down, hanging off sideways and three feet away from the hedge. The garden slopes away from the hedge so I'd rather work head on ie with the two legs 'behind' me and the one leg into the hedge. That to me seems like I need to be at the top otherwise I'd have to work between the rungs. I hope you're laughing at these pictures because I am. I think there's more thinking to do...and maybe price one of those hedge-clippers-on-a-stick things. My problem with those is the weight. There's always something!
