What is wrong with my dogwood?

I purchased a small cornus kousa for a (very large) container on my patio a few months ago. Initially it looked healthy but the leaves have started to turn brown and look wilted. Any idea what is causing this? Any help appreciated!

Without seeing the whole shrub. that would be my best guess, but with the excess rain Edinburgh's had this year - it could be the opposite. It could be drowning if the soil and drainage aren't right.

I'm basing that on your forum name @edinburghcanalgarden ;)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
