Chinese lanterns -physalis alkekengi - help please

I planted these last year from seed. They grew tall and strong but did not flower. They started to die back, but rallied and then I followed instructions and cut them back for the winter. They are in large pots.
One year on they have once again grown tall and strong but still have not flowered. Any idea what I'm doing wrong? Thanks
