Are there any houseplants I can sow seeds of now, to have inside over winter?

All I have inside right now is some herbs in the kitchen, and a pelargonium.

Anything I can get sown now, to provide some indoor colour over autumn/winter, or should I just buy plants fully grown nearer the time? Bit new to all this!

    It won't be long before you can plant paperwhite daffoldil bulbs for an indoor display.
    If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

    Not exactly houseplants, but wallflowers would be good on a sunny windowsill or conservatory. Forced bulbs? I rely on miniature pelargoniums, Christmas cactus, amaryllis and Streptocarpus for winter flowers

    It’s time to plant prepared hyacinths now to have them in flower for Christmas 😊

    You can sow pansy or viola seeds now and use then as pot plants through winter and spring then put them out in the garden next year.
    Sow indoors, very lightly cover then put a sheet of cardboard over so they are dark, keep in a cool room until germinated, pot on gradually, they should flower around Christmas time. 
    I’m going to sow mine today.
