What is this?

Hi.  Can anyone tell me what this is?  It has popped up all over the garden. I thought it was a plant and potted it up but now it looks more like a weed. The leaves have a bitter smell.

It’s a dead nettle, lamium purpureum.  Pretty and quite easy to remove so I leave it for a while if its not in the way. But starts to look manky after a while, so it gets removed.

Thanks. So is it a weed? I googled it and saw  garden centres charging money for it

There are several forms of dead nettle and some, such as the one with variegated foliage and yellow flowers, are sold as ground cover plants.

When you see "ground cover" in a plant description it can often be replaced by "invasive" or "thug".

Ha ha. Ok. I know what you mean.  I will let it have its day and then remove it.
