Alium for May in slightly acid soil

Hello,
I’m looking for an allium to help fill a May gap in a couple of borders.  I would prefer them to be close to 60cm/2 feet tall rather than the hip-height ones. I’ve noticed that sellers advise chalky soil. My soil is very slightly acid, but there were alliums in this garden when we came here 11 years ago. Do I need a particular variety for my soil? Thanks 
Carmarthenshire (mild, wet, windy). Loam over shale, very slightly sloping, so free draining. Mildly acidic or neutral.

    I think so long as it's free draining you'll be fine, I'd go for Purple Sensation.

    Purple Sensation is pretty reliable. I wouldn't worry about the soil either, as long as the site is good  :)
    It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
