Very carefully tip a pot of plants out to see how big the roots are. If they are well on their way to the bottom of the pot they should be fine to pot on.
A gardener's work is never at an end - (John Evelyn 1620-1706)
Have the hydrangeas rooted there’s no sign of new growth? Wait for the roots to show at the bottom of the pots, I would bring them in for the winter, a cold GH will do.
Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor.
Might be weigela, something to do with apples I think. \ The pale green leaves on hydrangea are all new. Started off with two dark leaves. They might have gone a bit pale as they were thirsty for a few days a little while back.
Just poked trimmings in compost. Didn't expect much. Now I have no idea what to do with them all. Seed swap probably. The parent hydrangea is a pita. It wants damp light shade. I have nowhere in my garden that really suits it and now I've got two babies😕 @lyn@Hexagon I'll put them in the porch. Leaving them snuggled up together will save very limited space.
Hey @B3 - you're meant to take cuttings of things you want to have more of, not things you don't have room for That 2nd one [in the 1st pic] looks like a Choisya to me. I'd leave them somewhere sheltered over winter since they're all hardy shrubs. I leave all that type of cutting outside, usually in amongst other plants for protection. You can repot them as soon as they're filling up and poking out the bottoms, and you can do that at any time.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
