Maple problem

Every year this maple in my garden suffers this fungi attack, no amount of spraying with chemical or natural remedies has any effect in preventing it. The tree is about 15 years old and about 3m tall, any clues as to what is causing it or how to prevent it?

Poor airflow and too dry probably.

    Drought.

Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.

its mildew, its taking advantage of a drought stressed plant, its probably too late in the season to do anything about it this year, just make sure you give it a really good water now and next year if it gets warm and there's low rainfall remember to give it a good water.

Bear in mind that if there's also a lot of other planting nearby, those are competition for that water.
Mulching after a good spell of rain will also help retain that moisture. If you're in an area of lower, or sporadic,  rainfall, thoroughly soak with a hose, or buckets, for a few days before applying.  :)
