Strimmer line recommendations

  You need to use the size of line recommended by your instruction book, as if too fat for the machine it will overload it eventually.  Then I personally prefer a twisted line, rather than round, and use a reinforced one.  The extra cost seems to be worth it as don’t have to replace it much and with just the round nylon type I go through loads.    But depends what you’re strimming - if just grass then won’t matter.

  We always bought our line from our local agricultural suppliers.  They tend to stock the best quality and are much more knowledgeable than DIY stores. Take care not to buy cord which is too heavy duty for your machine.

  Thank you both. I wish I'd took the line into account when I bought it last week! Thanks for looking into the size (1.5) I couldn't find this in the booklet. Mainly using just for grass edging and along the path but wanted to trim the osteospermum with it ( yep, that's what caused the problem!).

  I’d say for that you don’t need anything too fancy so just get cheap and cheerful then...look in Wilco or Argos.  We use ours for hours and hours and hours, on brambles and rough grass and our wildflower meadow so need heavy duty. You probably don’t!
