i have the most beautiful 6 foot high cotoneaster hedge which i love very much, it flower`s
wonderfully but i never get any berries. this is an 18 year old problem now, please could someone tell me what is going on.

    you don't say which Cotoneaster you have
    Are the potential berries are being trimmed off with hedge cutting?

    Maybe they are of the family where you have to have a male and a female plant to get fruit.?

    I think @nutcutlet may have the answer, as the OP has it as a hedge. 
    It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
