@Hostafan1 maybe it’s a female thing because all the women I know like a cup of tea and a cake as part of a trip just about anywhere. And an afternoon tea is Heaven for lots of ladies but seems to leave the gentleman unmoved?

I drink gallons of tea and eat tons of cake, but not at garden centre prices, maybe I'm just tight?

I find that these days garden centres are mostly neither one thing nor another.  Not a patch on nurseries for range and quality of plants, and more expensive than Wilko, Home Bargains, DIY sheds etc for fertilisers, compost and general non-plant bits & pieces and even basic plants like bulbs and bedding.  I tend to only use them as a place to meet up with friends for tea and cake and a natter! Of course that doesn't mean I won't buy the odd plant if I see something I like while I'm there :D

    I don't have tea/coffee at them either @Hostafan1. I go home too  :)

That takes some effort @treehugger80. Top marks to that nursery!  :D
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

Maybe it’s because I don’t drive so a visit to the nursery is a day out for me with hubby or one of my daughters and tea and cake finishes it off nicely

I'd buy another plant and have cake back at home and stick the kettle on when they dropped me back.
God I'm tight, or just haven't jumped on the whole " coffee shop culture" bandwagon.
    I blame Friends.

I think we're playing up to the Scottish stereotype @Hostafan1 :D

Mind you - my sister couldn't be more different. She would be going for the coffee/cake rather than plants  :)

You are not tight no point in spending money if it doesn’t give you pleasure is there? I just love sitting down eating and drinking something I haven’t had to make then getting up to leave the washing up to someone else!

Save the money on "coffee shops" and you could buy a dishwasher, lol

I LOVE afternoon tea, especially at some stately home or lovely garden (or even, if I'm honest, just when I'm walking the dog at Wollaton Park) so no... it's not just the ladies!
