Plant Ident for first timer

Hi, can anyone tell me what these two plants are?

    Hello Helena and welcome to the forum. Your second picture shows a Dahlia. The leaves could belong to several shrubs. Has it flowered at all this year? It could be a Philadelphus.

    Hi Ladybird4, thank you for your welcome and answer. The first plant has already had white flowers I believe - it is in my mother in law's garden we have been tidying. I'm told it could be ???ginger?

    Philadelphus has another name - Mock Orange - because the flowers smell like orange blossom. They are definitely not ginger which comes in several varieties with colourful flowers. Here is an example:

    Interesting! I love the smell of Mock Orange but this is not the leaf I had on mine. Will try to get more information. Thanks😀

    Thanks Yviestevie and Perki, I think I really need to find out what the flowers look like, deutzia certainly seems a possibility.

    My first thought on no 1 was Kolkwitzia Amabilis.
