Scouring Rush, taking over my lawn...help!

Hi all, newbie here but I was hoping someone can help.

I purchased a house a couple of years ago with a decent back garden. It's got some Scouring Rush down one of the borders but in the past 12 months, it's started popping up in my lawn and it's starting to become more persistent, despite me picking up the cuttings after mowing.

Any tips of how I can stop it sprouting up in my lawn and elsewhere in the borders?!

    You can search this site for 'horsetail' and find many long threads about it. It is very very difficult to get rid of.

    Hello jodyhayes and welcome to the forum. I have been trying for 30 years to get rid of it without any success whatsoever so if you do find a 'cure' please let me know

    I've never heard it called that before  :)
    It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

    My Grandad, who was a miner in the North East told me when I was small that the miners used to find roots of the plants down in the mines and they used to use the horsetail at home to scrub (scour) their pans. The silica in the stems was quite abrasive and did the job well.

    Ah - that makes sense @Ladybird4. :)
    So many nicknames/common terms stem [no pun intended ;) ] from a former use or something similar. 
    It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
