Show triumph!

Just had to share my success at the local village show: my "Housewives' Choice" basket of five vegetables came first, and even got extra praise from the judge!
My 5 veg are some Charlotte potatoes, four nice courgettes, a squash, a rather curved cucumber and a truss of tomatoes

  • Thank you all, and sorry for boasting! I was particularly pleased that the judge didn't mind my curvy cucumber - actually it looked rather cute, following the shape of the basket and curling around the squash. Now, how shall I eat my courgettes and potatoes tonight?

Roast, with garlic, rosemary and some olive oil.   That's what I'm doing with ours anyway.

Well done you.  Good looking basket as well as the veg.

  • Aww, I'm so touched that you noticed the basket, Obelixx. It was made by my husband, who died in 2016, so it's quite precious to me. I have a couple of old ones of similar size that I use around the garden, but I keep this one for special occasions.

Good to have.  I made a basket at a willow weaving day about 18 mnths ago and us it to hold seed packets at the mo.  Can't see OH being sentimental about it tho.  Mind you, I've made curtains, table runners, cushion covers, clothes for all of us, patchwork table mats, embroidered "pictures", painted and renovated furniture etc etc.

I also buy nice looking baskets in flea markets and they're great for veg picking.  The latest is a picnic basket for which I need to make a bottom pad and maybe a tablecloth.  Being French, it has a basketwork thingy to hold 4 wine bottles but only space for 6 plates......
