House plants compost

purplerallimpurplerallim Posts: 5,287
I am off to the GC today and as these need repotting ( not the flytrap) I was wondering what would be best to buy.As I don't know what the one on the right is and the one on the left is some type of fern I was thinking something moss or leaf based. Thanks for any help.

You may regret asking this!   Carnivorous plants needs compost with low nutrient levels and ferns need more.   Scroll down this page to get to compost for Venus fly trap - https://www.rhs.org.uk/advice/profile?pid=819

There's no such thing as John Innes or Levington's formula composts here so I buy the best I can.  If I'm potting succulents I then add a bit of grit to improve drainage and ferns get a bit of multi-purpose added to help with moisture retention but then I don'thave ferns that like dry conditions at their feet.

When I water house plants, I put the pots in a big sink in the scullery and water well then leave to drain completely before they go back in their cache-pot.   Seems to work.
