    Did my ears deceive me on the cuttings allotment-growing chocolate cosmos from root...They are self-sterile apparently. Guess I learned something completely unexpected. 
    I think she meant those dried up packs ( like dahlias )  you can buy in garden centres . If I  remember rightly she said something along the lines of " I buy dried roots from supermarkets"

    Chocolate cosmos is indeed sterile so has to be propagated from cuttings.  I have found it to be a fussy plant so gave up on it some years ago.  There are better performing plants with that colour of flower.

    It's a bit late for pumpkins to be forming now so a small one will be no real loss.  You want to be doing what's needed to make the bigger ones ripen ready for storage and eating.

  • You can buy seeds for chocolate cosmos now, a recent introduction but very expensive.
    Life's tragedy is that we get old too soon and wise too late.
