Wisteria pruning

Should we prune our 18 month old wisteria to 7 leaflets as advised in one of the postings or just prune the wispy shoots at this early stage of its development?  Also,

    A Wisteria plant should be pruned only twice a year: in summer, and then again in winter. Pruning keeps the growth of the sprawling Wisteria under control, and just in check, to beautify the setting. However, that’s not all.

    Pruning spurs the young branches to grow, and bring forth buds. That way, there’s a good circulation of air, sunlight and improved chances of ripening. Hence, the importance of it.

    We have inherited 2 mature purple wisterias.  They get a serious trim in winter to keep them in bounds and make sure they're nt going up nder roof tiles and gutters.  They get several cuts all summer because, now they're being tended, we get a second flush of flowers in July/August and they put out very long twining tendrils which can ambush us.

    We don't do the precise 7 in July and 2 in February because they're just too big and boisterous.

    We love them so have bought a new, small, white flowered one which was in flower when we bought it 2 years ago.  I want it to get quite big to cover a pergola and mesh fence so I haven't pruned it at all yet.  Instead I'm letting stems get quite long for future training up and along their support - when it's built - and then it will get the proper pruning regime.   I should point out that, while it is clearly healthy and growing well it hasn't flowered since we bought it so the proper pruning regime of July and February is key.

    I am trying to get growth on my white one too @Obelixx as it started out as a 7 foot whip. It is now 18 months old and even though we had flower last year we didn't this. It has very few side shoots, but has 5 main branches now so only gets the ends cut as yet. Hopefully it won't take too much longer to get it to a point where it can be pruned for flowers.😁
