Conifer trees and planting

can anyone suggest what to plant under conifers the soil is gritty and dry nothing much grows apart from well established shrubs

    Always difficult under conifers. I had success with the hardy geranium Claridge Druce but did have to water a bit. Also nasturtiums did clamber up quite well.
