Bird ID

I've just seen a flock of birds. They're slightly smaller than a sparrow. They looked like sparrows with black/brown and yellow striped tails and wings. The head wasn't red just brown.
They were on roses and clematis . Dont know if they were after insects or seed heads.
Can anyone ID them?

    They were. I should have realised how young they were. They kept slipping off things😊
    Watched sparrows and crows getting their flying hours in too.

    Young birds are amusing to watch aren't they? We have a lot of young hedge sparrows and starlings coming to our garden with parents near by. They are quite able to feed themselves, but still do the wing fluttering "feed me" posture as soon as Mum or Dad appears with a tasty morsel! 
    We've also got young sparrows still in the nest in our eaves, but they must be about ready to fledge by now.

    Does anybody recognise this bird? It was feeding on grapes in our garden earlier today (I know, the picture is not great, sorry)

    Ah, thank you, I was about to report it as a seeing of a black-and-white warbler  :D     
    I thought it was too good to be true  :/

    I'm no expert but they're insectivorous mostly. So better see if someone else has ideas too. @Big Blue Sky

    Yes my first instinct on seeing the image was Pied Wagtail.
    Clay soil - Cheshire/Derbyshire border. 

    I play with plants and soil and sometimes it's successful
