Roots smelling of lavender
This Summer I was digging over a small veg patch that I made within my lawn a few years ago. Fleshy roots that I have been digging up have smelt of lavender........how??
I do have a couple of lavender in a lawn border but have never planted lavender there. This property has been built in the 1950s on land that was part of a C19th manor house, surely roots cannot survive without the green plant above ground, if they were ever grown for the gardens. I dig manure and compost, possibly top soil at some point into this bed, does anything come from that?
These roots never reach the surface and nothing green grows up from them, what is going on?
