Perhaps a wildlife camera strategically placed might reveal the thief... though it sounds as if you'll have to wait until next year, @duncanXzNNPZGL.   :/
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.

A trailcam  can have very interesting results.  Its surprising what goes on at night.
  • Yes, I tried the trail camera but as with many IT ‘solutions’ it failed on the day. I may just press C-A-D on my techie efforts. Thanks for all your inputs.

Going forward I will tread softly and carry a big bat.

I think this is sound advice whatever the situation!

Many years ago my friend had loads of fruit bushes and trees and knew that his children pinched all the low down stuff but couldn't figure out who or what was taking the higher ones.
Picture this. Three small children, one plastic bubble car. Fat baby M driving/ballast, C pushing and A standing on the roof pinching and popping them into open mouths in turn! They are now an actuary, a dentist and a vet in that order. 🤓🤓🤓  🤣
