Whats wrong with my courgette?

 Can somebody advise me as to how I can stop my courgettes going yellow and rotten at the end? About 70% of the fruits just do this whether they are touching anything or not!

    I think that is caused by them not being fertilised. 
    Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor.

    I had that problem last year. The first two /three on each plant grew well, but after that most rotted before they were big enough to pick. Didn't bother this year with courgettes.

    It can be two things, either the lack of pollination (or bad, uncomplete pollination) or blossom end rot (more probable if the plant is in a pot or not enough watered/fed). Sometimes it happens to some fruit while there is another fruit growing, basically the plant discarding some fruit or not having enough energy for that. Some varieties do it more than others. And nobody knows why I think.

    I've got 6 pots of courgette (zucchini) and they are fruiting really well...no fertiliser, just good watering from the water butts (not tap water - think this is a big plus) otherwise rainwater.  I've had one or two fruit with blossom-end rot but, on the plus side, I have a big container of cream of zucchini soup in the freezer, we've had lightly sautéed zuc. flavoured with oregano alongside some lovely lamb chops, some have been chopped up and put into my ragu and frozen and it looks as though I shall have enough to make a chocolate-zucchini cake tomorrow from today's offering.  And it's still only 1 August!!
