climbing roses

hi guys i have climbing roses which have nice new branches which get so long then decide to flower at the tip of the growth and then they stop growing,  im trying to train my roses up a trellis in the curved or zig zag style but they stop growing once they get a rose on the end, can anyone offer any advice please,  what am i not doing or what am i doing wrong.  thanks guys

    You should eventually see side shoots growing on the long branches. They will add to the bulk. In addition, new growth should appear nearer the base of your rose tree. All climbers have maximum height and Rose's can be short, medium or tall. Look at the variety for the type of growth you can expect.

    The more horizontally you can train a stem the more it will produce flowering side shoots - all to do with slowing down the sap.  Sometimes you need to tip prune.   See this info on pruning climbing roses from the RHS and scroll down to formative training and pruning for young climbers
