Can anyone identify this tree please?

I saw this tree at my husband’s work on Saturday. I have never seen anything like it and Google is no help. Can anyone tell me what it is?
the red/pink things are really hard and have no scent.

    The red bits are seed pods, not flowers

    Thank you. So if he pulled one of the seed pods off I could plant one in my garden?

    once they're ripe, they split open, but take many , many years to get to flowering size.
    I think most are grafted, but I might be wrong
