    Yes - it's a tried and tested method, and many people do the same for all sorts of plants, especially things like clematis, which need lots of water, and have deep roots.
    A plastic drinks bottle with the bottom cut off and put in upside down is a popular and easy one to try. You can put the screw top on to stop soil/compost etc dropping in and blocking it.
    It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
