Kale

I have a dozen or so kale in pots (not pots but can't think what they are called!!!! ). Wsiting for space to plant out in veg plot. BUT they are looking pathetic  - chewed and miserable. Not sure what is predating them - flea beetle/slugs/whatever.  I have nowhere  to put them at the moment. Or woukd it be best to find a small place to plant them and then move again when i have room. At the moment they don't look like they will last until the end of next week!!!!

I'm in the same position I sowed mine a bit later than usual and so the plants are about 10cm tall they were planted out a week ago, the hot weather didn't help but they are soldiering on and this spell of wet cool weather may help them to get established, I have already had to replace one plant which was topped by a slug I would guess. Of course we are now into the cabbage butterfly period so the plants do need to be growing well to cope with any caterpillars that may escape inspections. I hope that my plants survive especially as last years crop didn't fair well with the heat.

Think the flea beetles are abundant this year ... they’re certainly making their mark on my brassicas ... hopefully as they get taller they’ll outgrow the damage, bug if it carries on I’m thinking of getting some bags of soil conditioner from the GC and applying a good thick mulch ... see how the little devils like that 👿
