Desilting wildlife pond

my pond is 5 years old & has built up a fair accumalation of sludge.  The plants still seem to be thriving but will it affect the pond life? Pond is approx 8 x 13 ft. Any advice welcome

Weve used it in our wildlife pond with good results and no ill effects.

I've also been using it (on Dove's recommendation) for the last year and agree with good results and no ill effects.
I use it in conjunction with Blagdon Barley extract which I find keeps algae and the like to a minimum - which was also a recommendation from Dove (along with pond snails too)
