One of the rubus family ... blackberry etc. but we need to see the leaves and a pic of the whole plant.

You have a lovely garden there. Although you feel it looks neglected I've seen much worse! And with some TLC you will make it very pretty. Just take one step at a time and don't get disheartened  :)
  • Great think palm is getting out of control may need pruning but last had it done it died i think I did to early in the year so the frost got to it.
Slowly getting there but soil is very damp so looking for plants that like wet soil drainage is poor I feel.

Good luck with the marestail ... you won’t beat it but if you keep in and on and don’t let up you will
be able to keep it under control.

Blackberry fruits on the previous year’s growth. They send out long whippy growths that riot wherever they touch the ground.

I beat them by cutting hard back ... digging out the stumps and then treating any fresh regrowth in the spring with SBK brushwood killer according to the directions on the pack. You need to leave them a few weeks for the SBK to pass back to the roots.

By the way ... get some stout ‘hedging gloves’ from an agricultural supplier.

Whoops! ‘Root’ not ‘riot’ ... but the result is pretty much the same 🤣
