Agapanthus advice

I have treated myself to an agapanthus Midnight Star.  It is in a container on my south-facing patio - in full sun, but sheltered.  The RHS website says that it is H5 Hardy in most places throughout the UK even in severe winters (-15 to -10).  Do I still need to fleece it in winter please?

I have several, blue and white, all in pots.  I have never fleeced them (in exactly the same position as yours) during the many years that they’ve been there.   I simply cover them lightly with grit/gravel.  They do very well every year and every 4/5 years I take them out, cut in half or thirds with a strong old bread knife and shove them back into new pots.  My patio is south facing. Perhaps it depends on the variety, though I doubt it. I would say they are as tough as old boots on my patio.

It's a deciduous variety and perfectly hardy in all the but the coldest parts of UK.
If it's going to be below -10C, fleece it, but not many places in UK get that bad.

Fantastic! Thank you.  I am looking forward to having more plants from it in future years.

My Agapanthus 'Navy Blue' (which I think is the same variety under a different name) made it through the last two winters in a small pot outside, no protection. (City garden in Nottingham).
