Overwatered lavender

I have realised I have overwatered my lavender as the buds have gone from purple to green. Is it saveable if I hold off on watering for a bit or do I need to cut it back? Will it come back next year? It’s in a pot.

Is there drainage holes in the pot? lavender likes a bit of neglect.  If it's still green it should be okay.  I cut my lavender back in spring, you could cut it back now but it may continue to put on growth whilst we still have the warm weather
  • Yes there’s holes in the bottom! I’ll leave it alone and see how it goes :)

Maybe post a photograph of your lavender. You mention buds going from purple to green which is odd. Could just be that your lavender had finished flowering and the flowering heads are slowly drying up, which is normal.

Thank you for posting some more photos. It all looks normal and you have a healthy looking French Lavender. They are in different stages of development, so it's all fine. When they age, they will turn the paler purple colour eventually drying up. You can prune them back to the bushy sections, or leave them for protection and prune back next spring. Not seeing any signs of over watering.
  • Great, thank you!
