Prickly pear problem

somebody please help my prickly pear cutting has been in the soil for around a week now and it seems to have began to curl and wrinkle around the edge it is also softer to the touch and tone have any idea what could be wrong with it I’d like to save it since I sadly won’t be able to get any more since the person i got to I visited a few weeks ago lives on the other side of the country

    @kckdel64 May I ask where you live please? This site is a UK site and most of our forum members live here with a few members in Europe and Australia. I suspect that you are based in the USA and it might be helpful to you to find a similar gardening site over there. I know that for smaller cacti it helps to allow the cut surface to dry and form a callus before putting it into compost. Is this what you did with the prickly pear?

    Yes I am in the US if you could let me know what the name of the site it then please do, and I did let it sit out for around a week in the dark on newspaper to callous

    Yeah I’ve grown them in the past at my parents house way back, after I moved out they couldn’t care for them and the plants died, they’re very strong cacti and I’ve seen a few people growing them out in Canada

    I don't think there's much that you can do except pop it somewhere sheltered and a bit shady and keep the soil just slightly moist.  Your patience may be rewarded.
