Can an apple tree be saved?

Hi all, a neighbour is getting rid of this apple tree and has asked if I want it, does anyone think this would survive being transplanted? As it would need to be moved today, if not I think they are just going to chop it down to ground level. 

Any replies appreciated

    To get it out would involve digging a hole the size of the canopy. I think that moving it would be a colossal task I'm afraid. You can usually assume that a plant grows just as much underground as the bit you can see. I  suspect that you would need machinery to dig it up and a hoist or crane to lift it. Sadly I think that it's too big to move even in autumn/winter which would be the best time to do it. Sorry.

    Thanks for the info, I may have to buy my own fruit trees later in the year!

    Good idea @Lilybeanz🌸 Young apple trees are cheap and you can get a variety of your choosing.  A young tree will establish better anyway. :)
    A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
