  That said, I would be tempted to plant it out in box and keep it clipped as a flat-topped circular topiary 'plinth'.

  Thanks WillDB - I love the en masses planting idea & agree buxus would give me exactly what I want - patience could test me somewhat!!! 🤔🙈

  Whatever option you go for, you might as well take out those Irises. They won't get enough sun on the rhizomes.
  Assuming they're bearded iris, of course.
