  • Hmmm for Edinburgh conditions French varieties wouldn't probably survive the cold winters. There's a PDF by the RHS on hardy varieties, it's from 2001 but still worth looking through and researching any varieties that look more dense in growth @peteski2011 here's the link: https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/pdfs/plant-trials-and-awards/plant-bulletins/hardy-lavender.pdf

  • thanks @amancalledgeorge I'm thinking that maybe Hidcote is the way to go. What are your thoughts?
  • Hidcote grows quite leggy for me...but maybe different in your conditions. At least all lavenders will like the soil of your plot...they're definitely not choosy @peteski2011

    Perhaps think about putting a sinuous curve of box from top left to bottom right down the middle of the border and infill with lavender. Would give a bit of extra interest to it and would only need clipping once a year.

    Hidcote does well here in Fife so very hardy.

  • I like the sound of that @hogweed. Good to hear Hidcote is working out well over in Fife!!
