Hi - Can anyone tell me how to tell the difference between a new shoot from the ground to one of those that you need to twist off or they'll take over the plant. Some of my branches have 7 leaves on a stem others have 9.

    It certainly spreads, I have so much of it now on the banks I’ve given up trying to tame it, cut it right down as low as can in the Spring. 
    I didn’t even plant one in the first place, must have been a present from the birds.
