Mildew ravaged dog rose

I’m struggling with what to do with a beautiful dog rose which is currently a total mess thanks to Mildew. I’ve sprayed it with garlic water and it really has helped, but it looks dreadful. We are about to put in a watering system and I’m hoping that will solve the problem, but maybe I should get rid and start again?! 🤔😑

Give it a good, deep drink now because last yea'rs drought will have stressed it and there hasn't been enough rain over winter to restore the water table to proper levels so the roots are failing to find the water they need.

Keep it watered thoroughly until it starts to recover and the new watering system can take over.

thank you Obelixx. You are so right. Despite the rains we keep getting cracks are opening up in the soil again! we are on a hill and you can see where the water table meets the lime and runs straight out and down the hill. neighbours below us have had to put french drains in to stop flooding. It looks like the irrigation system I invested is the perfect answer. I have one more bed to do and it will be drought tolerant!

I don't feel like I'm winning with this mildewy rose. The irrigation system is doing a fantastic job with the rest of the garden (I can't recommend it enough! It's a lot of faffing to install it, but then it's just doing it's job and can be added to or changed down the line), but this rose is still blighted with mildew. The leaves emerge all green and healthy then within a week they are floppy and diseased looking. I gave it the garlic spray treatment which works momentarily, but I would probably need to keep doing it every 3rd day. I'll go and take some pics. It's such a shame because the shape of it was perfect for this spot, but I'm thinking it's too stagnant here for it in this protected corner. I'll need to start thinking about suitable replacements?!
