If we don't have a wet autumn & winter we'll be in serious trouble.

    Yes indeed.
  • The rain we had a couple of weeks ago was very welcome,  but it's been very dry again since. My large waterbut (350l) is nearly empty again.  I think we are already in trouble  🙁

Same here. We had a few heavy showers a couple of weeks ago but nothing since. Bathwater is still being siphoned onto selected areas of the garden in the hope that it'll make it damp enough to get some plants into the ground, but at the moment, by morning I can hardly tell where it went. Fingers and toes crossed for a wet winter and spring.

Thames Water say that some rivers and reservoirs are at their lowest point for 19 years.

Some good rain for us today, thankfully. It was all getting a bit dry again a couple of weeks on from the rain. I'd been thinking I was going to have to spend another day lugging watering cans around the garden- no need now!

September's Water Situation Report for England - regional.

London had average rainfall, which is a relief. But that was following six bone dry months, so the hose pipe ban continues.

Apparently it was our first month of above-average rainfall since February!  Nice to see things growing again

I don't know the exact numbers but the smaller streams are finally flowing here again, even if they're still just trickling. It's been wet but the ground is still soaking it all up.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

I'm not sure chalk streams and rivers will be recovering any time soon.

Thanks @Fire. Confirms my records and observations that our September rainfall was around average but with a dry spell mid-month, and soil moisture level is still low (except the bits that are getting regular infusions of bathwater :))
