My miniature willow is turning brown

I will try to post a photo...but not sure if I can. My willow tree's leaves are turning brown. I am not sure what to do with it. It is three years old and I haven't pruned it ever....I have been afraid to ruin it. A friendly neighbour wants to cut approxtwo feet off the length and thin it out.....but I would rather save her myself 😃 I thought that maybe it was just because of the recent dry spell?
Any suggestions?

Willows of all species/varieties/hybrids are usually notoriously thirsty plants ; last years hideous heatwave is still affecting many plants around the UK (like delayed action) .
I think your tree is suffering from this ; also I think it's acting as its 'own umbrella' if you understand me . Rain is running off and away from the roots due to the pendulous nature of the plant . Also it is having to compete with what appears to be a healthy lawn .
Follow your neighbours advice ; thin the tree out and reduce the length of the stems .
Drench very regularly too and some improvements should soon be seen , although maybe not this year .
