Bean rust

I think my broad beans have a fungal rust. They’re coming to an end of their cropping but there are still some small beans developing.

Is there a risk of spread to my french and dwarf beans growing next to them? Not sure if I should try an anti fungal treatment and see how they go, or harvest the beans and pull up the plants before it spreads. I’m hoping to get a lot longer out of my french beans.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

I didn’t know the answer to this and as I grow beans I thought I’d better find out 😉
The RHS says that the rust on broad beans is different and unrelated to the type of rust on runner/dwarf/French beans ... if you scroll down in this link you can read what they have to say about it

Brilliant. Thanks Dove. I can relax and let the beans get on with it.

What you have on your broad beans is 'chocolate spot', a fungal disease which only affects broad beans (thankfully!):

    Thanks Bob. Can’t
decide if it looks more like the rust or the chocolate spot. Either way, glad my other beans are safe.
I’ve picked all the decent sized broad beans in case the plants start to die. Along with some other garden goodies. I think we’ll be having veggie curry for dinner.

My broad beans have either rust or choc spot or both. I think it may have reduced the crop a little, but the beans have been fine. I always grow my French beans in the same bed as the BB and they  have never had any infection or fungus.
