Apple tree disease

Hello, very grateful for any advice.

I moved into a house with a few quite mature apple and other fruit trees in the garden. Over the winter I had them professionally pruned as they were very overgrown. We also had building works, and quite a few times the builders left rubble around them and things leaning on them.

Now one of the apple trees has fluffy white material where the branches were pruned (photo attached) and the leaves look brown and curled.

Any advice what this could be? I've looked up apple tree diseases but nothing seems to quite fit. Thanks!

Apple woolly aphid. Can you pick them off? If not try wiping the area with a cloth soaked in meths.
